| ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (click here for past winners) This Week we are honoring the Westview Wolverines Freshman Wrestling team. The Westview Freshman Team took home the first trophy ever for any Westview Wrestling Team at the John Bright Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Poway High school December 1st. Despite only fielding 10 wrestlers for the 14 different wieght classes, the young Wolverines placed in seven out of the ten, with four first place wrestlers. The team finished in Third place with 165 points, behind perrennial powerhouses Poway with 189 points and Rancho Bernardo with 176 points, whose teams often field many wrestlers in each wieght class. The Champs include Mike Manuche, who at 119 lbs. wrestled 5 matches with 4 pins and 17-1 decision, Brenden Watson at 135 lbs. with 4 matches and 4 pins, Mike Kochka with 4 matches and 4 falls, and Paul An at 215, with 4 matches and 4 falls. Other placers were Darin Hess and Brett Rothberger who both took third and Drew Polson with a fourth place finish. Other freshman wrestlers that competed and scored points for the team were Austin Brown, Ramiz Islamovic, and Travis Baccei.
