| ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (click here for past winners) This Week we are honoring the Rancho Penasquitos Pop Warner Scorpions. You may have followed their progress in the forums here at pqsports.com. This Mitey Mite team finished their spectacular season 8-1-2. They had the best record of any Mitey Mite team in the history of RPPW. Even more important than that, however, was the heart of this team. These boys practiced and played with determination, respect, and grit. They weren't always the biggest team on the field, but their skill defied the odds that were sometimes against them. This was a group of boys and coaches that constantly displayed wonderful character and a complete "team" mentality. The chemistry between the boys, coaches and parents, was amazing from day 1. From July 31 through November 18, the Scorpions were a team that anyone would be proud to be a part of. The knowledge and skills that the team learned from their coaches turned them into a powerhouse on the field, with their "stinging" defense and explosive offense. Each week the coaches would ask the boys, "Who are we playing this week?" The boys' response: "It doesn't matter!!!" They were well prepared each week regardless of the opponent. At The Scorpion team party on November 18, tears were flowing from the coaches and the parents and even some of the boys. All were sad to see such a fun season where our boys grew as football players and as young men, come to a close. This will be a team they will remember all of their lives. As Coach Jackie told them at half time of every game..."We're creating memories!" These Scorpions have memories that will last them a lifetime and we parents know that someday the boys will be telling their own children about this wonderful Scorpion season. "Thank you" isn't enough to say for our coaches' complete dedication. The coaching staff was the epitome of what youth sports should be all about, and our boys were the very lucky recipients of this.
