ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

This week we are honoring the RPLL's Major
Red Sox' Taylor Sankey.

Spring is in the air, and Taylor knocked out the
first home run of the season in an opening day
defeat to the Cardinals.  It sure is nice to see
the baseballs flying around our local fields!

Taylor is a gifted athlete who also plays on the
Lookouts travel ball team and the Sundevils
competitive basketball team.  Throw in an
outstanding student and playing the
saxophone, and you have someone truly
deserving the honor.

According to the Red Sox coach, Kenn
Laundroche, "Taylor is a great kid to have on
my team.  He is a quiet leader who listens to all
the coaches.  Taylor is the only 12 year old on
the team and the only returning Majors Division
player.  He is a role model to the other talented
11 year olds that are experiencing the Majors
pitching for the very first time.

"His leadership and professionalism when the
team allowed five first innings runs to the
Cardinals was evident when he came up to bat
in the bottom of the first inning.  His
determination to start the inning off right
resulted in his big homerun.  He was greeted at
home by his teammates, but showed true
sportsmanship by quietly returning to the
bench.  He pitched the next inning and did not
allow another run.  The Red Sox fell to the
much better Cardinal team 15-2, but my kids will
remember this day as the first time they got to
experience a Major League homerun for their
team.  Hopefully, there will be many more to
come."

Catch all of the home runs on the "Dinger
Board" in the
baseball forums.  You can also
follow all of the scores from the RPLL Majors,
Minors, and the Pony scores there.

It should be a great season!
