| ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (click here for past winners) This week PQSports is honoring the RP Pony Champion Yankees. The Yankees capped off a great season with a 3-1 victory in the final game of the Pony Tournament over a very game and near to my heart Giants squad. The Yankees entered the tournament as the #1 seed by securing the best record in the regular season. They finished the tournament with a fine 3-1 record. The Giants entered the tourney as the #5 seed, and after a great run through the loser's bracket they finished the tournament in 2nd with a 5-2 record. Brian Attard, coach of the Yankees, was proud of his team's accomplishment, and rightfully so. "As a coach you could not ask for a better way to end a story book season. The Yankees and Giants played some of the most thrilling games this season and put it all on the line in the finale. I could not ask for a better played championship game, as a baseball purist, I root for great plays by both teams and there were quite a few! "I would like to congratulate the Yankees on a terrific season, we talked about this goal back in February and we accomplished it “our way”. We allowed the boys to play baseball and also have fun doing it. Chemistry plays a huge role in sports and by letting the boys have fun while learning the game turned out to be key as we never panicked after a loss and we always believed and pulled for each other and were very resilient. "I would also like to recognize the pitching performance of Christian Misthos who turned out to be the difference maker on the mound. Christian, in three playoff appearances went 3-0 pitched 19 innings while striking out 33. "I look forward to seeing everyone continue to pursue your dreams and playing baseball at whatever level you chose to play" Well said Brian, and congrats again to RP Pony Yankees! Feel free to congratulate the Yankees, or pass on any other news in our PQ Sports community in the forums.
