| TEAM OF THE WEEK (click here for past winners) This week PQSports in honoring an entire team, the Marauders, a team from Rancho Penasquitos Pop Warner in the midget division. The Marauders are off to an impressive 3-0 start this season. Half of their roster are first-year players, playing organized football for the first time. Their team philosophy is that they are only as good as their weakest player, so they strive to get everyone better. Head coach Cal Gomogda and his staff are big believers in teaching fundamentals, because if they do that, then every player has the technique and fundamentals of football down and so they can put in any player and he makes great thing happen out on the field. Coach Cal says "We are scoring a lot points on offense due to great blocking from the heart and soul of the team (offensive line), and the play action from the QB and running backs. I am running 2 QB's and 9 running backs. On defense, we are playing smart and with intensity pressuring the opponents offense to make mistakes." As an added bonus, the Marauder's Cheerleaders are also having a fantastic year, and are expected to head to Florida to compete for the National Championship! The Marauders have dedicated their season to Dave Gauthier, a long-time RPPW coach who recently passed. If he were here, he would be very proud of this team.
