ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

This week the nod goes to JJ Stavola of the
Pony Giants as athlete of the week.

JJ had a monster game in a battle for first place
between the Giants and the Angels at Views
West Park this past Saturday.  The Giants
scored 2 runs in the second inning on
back-to-back doubles by Eddie Krukowski and
JJ Stavola.    The Angels answered right back
with a single by Brian Hayes and a double by
Matt Smith to tie the game at 2-2.  The Giants
tacked on 2 in the 3rd, and the Angels came
right back with 4 in the fourth inning to take a
6-4 lead.  And that is when the fireworks began!

Trailing by two runs in the 6th inning, JJ hit a
long home run to dead center to tie the game
up for the Giants, 6-6.  Behind the stellar
pitching of Tanner Barnes, the Giants kept a
very game Angels squad off the board in the
6th inning.  The Giants went quietly in the top of
the 7th as Angels pitcher Jake Cope shut them
down.

The Angels put runners at second and third
with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, when
Brandon Matsueda hit a line drive to left field
that looked like it was going to end the game.
In what was the play of the game, Tanner Bolin
made a diving shoe-string catch to send the
game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, JJ went yard a
second time to right-center, and the Giants
went on top 8-6.  JJ finished the game 4-4 with
a double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI's and 3 runs
scored.  The Angels were unable to rally in the
bottom of the 8th, and the Giants secured a
thrilling victory.
