| ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (click here for past winners) This Week we are honoring Chelsea Bigelow, an all-around 9 year-old athlete from PQ. Chelsea Bigelow is closing out the year with a successful athletic record, having competed in high level State Competitions in 3 different sports. In gymnastics, after coming off a broken hand, she still managed to have a successful Sectionals meet, where she qualified to compete at States. She recently finished competition at the State Championship Gymnastics meet, closing out the year with three State Championships in 3 different sports for the year. This is her second year qualifying to compete at the State meet... Last year, when she qualified for the State Championship and competed as an 8-year old, she was the youngest person from the gym to ever qualify and compete at a State Championship meet. Though she competes on bars, beam, floor and vault, her favorite exercises are beam and floor. At the most recent team party, she was voted the team's Toughest Competitor by her teammates. Chelsea also plays competitive soccer for the PQ Premier Red GU-10 team, where she as played forward, left mid and some defense. She as been playing for PQ Premier since the age of 6, and enjoys left mid the most. She also got to play at the State Cup this last year, where her team finished among the top 8 teams in State. Another highlight from soccer was when KUSI did a story on her when she was 7 years old for knowing how to do a "flip throw" (a front handspring on a soccer ball)and using the throw in a local soccer tournament. See it here! Chelsea also played for PQ Lightning this past Summer on the 8-U team. She primarily played shortstop for the team, but also had the opportunity to enjoy some pitching time as well. Chelsea really had a blast this past season, as the team saw tremendous success - at one point in the season winning 20 straight games. The highlight of that season for Chelsea was when the team qualified for State Championship and they played in Lancaster, Ca - a record for PQ Lightning, as this was the first 8_U Lightning team to ever play in the State Championship. At the end of season party, her coach complimented her spunk and enthusiasm, calling her the "Pete Rose" of the team. Congratulations, Chelsea!
