ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Brandon Hernandez of the Majors South Yankees is
being recognized as athlete of the week, and very
deserving of  the honor.

Brandon has been a key factor in the Yankees strong
first half season, and has compiled some unbelievable
numbers on both the offensive side of the game as well
as his strong pitching and slick fielding. Brandon has a
team leading .750 batting average, and .814 on base
percentage. He has hammered opposing pitchers for
ten extra base hits, including five doubles, two triples,
and has also slugged three home runs, including a
grand slam.

Brandon has a terrific glove on the mound, and at first
base. One coach commented “He looks like a young
Keith Hernandez out there playing”. That’s a former St.
Louis Cardinals/NY Mets League MVP, and eleven time
gold glove winner, for those that are too young to
remember. Not a bad comparison. Brandon has also
pitched over 19 innings during the first half season,
allowing a measly two runs, while striking out twenty
two batters, and allowing only six walks.

Brandon is a Managers dream player, and makes
every player around him better. He has been a great
role model to the younger players on the team with his
encouragement, determination, and cheerful
demeanor.

When Brandon’s not cooking up Home Runs and
racking up strikeouts on the diamond, he enjoys
gourmet cooking. That’s right!!, Brandon has
appeared on the Emeril Lagasse show with his Dad,
Brandon Sr., a chef himself, and prepared dishes.
Brandon Jr. has also cooked up dishes at the famous
Marine Room in La Jolla. Wow!!! Now how many of us
can say that…

Brandon has also played competitive soccer,
basketball, and football, but as his mom says, with all
the sports he has played, his school work is still priority
number one. Brandon has a bright future ahead of
him, who knows, he may end up autographing your
baseball one day, or serving you the best meal you
ever ate in your life!!! Either way, this kid is a winner!!!
Great job Brandon !!!
